The man, the book,
the Probationary Inspector

Asia's finest marches on: Kung Hei to new Probationary Inspector Nelson Ng Kwok-cheung, pictured here (right) with CP, Kevin Sinclair and his wife Kit at the reception following the most recent PTS passing-out. Mr Sinclair and Nelson, of course, co-authored Asia's Finest Marches On - that marvellous tome on the modern history of the Hong Kong Police Force. Nelson obviously took the project to heart. Could Kevin be next?
POLICE officers encountering unreasonable behaviour and impossible demands will overcome most difficulties by keeping at the forefront of mind that they are public servants dedicated to serving the community with courtesy, understanding and fortitude.

The remark was made by ex-chairman of the Police Children's Education Trust Management Committee and the Police Education and Welfare Trust management Committee, Hui Chun-keung, at the most recent passing-out parade held at the Police Training School last month.

He told graduating officers that they would face even greater challenges as they put the lessons they had learnt into practice.

"The learning process has only just began and, in the months and years ahead, each of you will face challenges to both your moral and your physical courage, " he said.

Mr Hui noted that the Hong Kong Police Force was one of the finest in the world.

"It has taken your colleagues and their predecessors many decades of hard and persevering work to earn such a reputation.

"You must do your utmost to uphold that reputation by demonstration integrity, professionalism, compassion and fair play in your work." he added.

Mr Hui said he had been impressed by the attitude, pride and turnout of the Force and today's parade had emphatically reinforced that view.

A total of 16 inspectors and 138 police constables graduated-one of whom was new Probationary Inspector Nelson Ng Kwok-cheung.
