Trust bursaries for police children

TRUST bursaries for police children under the 'Police Children's Education Trus' and the 'Police Education and Welfare Trust' are meant for subsidising students studying Secondary 4 to their first degree qualification in post-secondary institutes or universities.
ALL JPOS may apply for the bursaries if their children are attending local Government, Government Subsidised or aided secondary school at Secondary 4or above up to the first degree qualification in local or overseas post-secondary institutes or universities.
Inspectorate officers may apply if their children are attending local or overseas post-secondary institutes or universities for their first degree qualification. Senior officers are not eligible to apply. This applies also to auxiliary officers ,retired officers and police widows/widowers of these ranks.
Students who are studying and got promoted only in local Government, Government subsidised or aided secondary schools are eligible. Students who are admitted to local technical institutes to study one or two-year full time courses upon completion of their Secondary 3are also eligible. Students of Secondary 6and 7 are only eligible if they attained a qualification equivalent to three credits or more(1 distinction=2 credits)in one examination in the HKCEE.
All students who are admitted or promoted to local or overseas post-secondary institutes or universities to study full-time courses are eligible. Students in their first year of study under this category must have attained a qualification equivalent to three credits or more(1 distinction=2 credits) in one examination in the HKCEE or three passes in one HKALE(2ASL=1AL).For those students attending overseas post-secondary institutes or universities, they are eligible only if they have studied in the same country for not less than two years immediately before their first year of study. Students who do not meet this requirement will only be considered for the second and meet this requirement will only be considered for the second and subsequent years of their post-secondary and/or university education.
Application for the bursaries is under the following major restrictions:

No bursary will be granted to students who are on internship or placement with remuneration:
The maximum age for a student to receive bursary from the Trusts is 26years at the time of application.
The amount of bursaries granted will differ in accordance with the level of studey of the student. It will be (in HK$)about $1,100for each student of Form 4 or Form 5 level; about $1,500for each matriculation student; about $3,700 for each post-secondary institute student and about $8,000for for each university student. The amount will be reviewed and adjusted by the Trust committees in every year.
The closing date for application of the bursaries for secondary levels in this year is 31 August 1998,while that for post-secondary and university levels is 30 September 1998.
The relevant application forms are obtainable from Regional Welfare Officers and DSROs. or downloaded from the PEN system.

Heat Stress Reminder

Until 31 October, the Heat Stress Index will be available as an advisory service through the duty officer HQ CCC at 2860-2400; or PTU Guard Room at 2669-6300.
This reminder applies to officers engaged in physically demanding operational duties and training programmes (AP DIST, BOR DIST, PTS, PTU and Aux Trg).
The Heat Stress Index must be referred to as a pre-condition to ensure the safety of the participants in their activities.

Micro-Computer Courses

The Information Technology Training Centre (ITTC) in conjunction with private computer training institutes (government contractors) has organised a number of micro-computer courses open to applications from all ranks of police officers.
Due to availability of vacancies, all applications will be processed through respective formation Commanders who will select and nominate their own officers to attend the courses as appropriate with a view to enhancing the efficient and effective operation of computer systems used within their formations.
The following courses are booked exclusively for the police: Introductions to Micro-computer for Chinese Windows 3.1 (Aug 5, Sept 5, Oct 5); to MS Chinese Word 6.0 (Aug 5, Sept 3); to Chinese Input using Changjie Input Method (Sept 4); to Go Go Pen Version 5.0 (Aug 8, Sept 8, Oct 8); and to MS Chinese Excel 5. (0ct 2).

Police Magazine tape on North Point Project

POLICE Magaxine's television segment on the North Point Pilot Project (and the involvement of community members) has been copied onto VCR cassettes and sent out to all formations to serve as an informational video for training days, DC conferences, etc. The show looks at the Prefect from the police side as well as the public side and can give Force members unfamiliar with the Project some background on what is happening, especially with the improvements being made for officers themselves.

Blue Cross (Asia-Pacific) Insurance Limited is offering a voluntary healthcare insurance scheme exclusively for full-time Hong Kong civil servants aged 60 or below. Their spouses and children (aged from 15 days to 18. or full-time students up to age 23) can en-joy the medical coverage as well.
