IF you are a junior police officer approaching 45 years of age and joined the Old Pension Scheme or, if you joined the New Pension Scheme and are approaching the age of 50, you may be starting to think about whether you will continue working up to the regular retirement age of 55 or whether you will retire prematurely and apply for re-employment on agreement terms.
If you are considering to seek re-employment in the Force and want to know more about the
changes in the conditions of service after being re-employed, you can attend the Premature
retirement and re-employment seminar organised by the Conditions of Service Group 2 of
Personnel Wing. It is particularly directed toward junior police officers and will cover the
following issues:
Seminars will be held on 19 October, 26 October, 7 December and 14 December (all Mondays), from 6pm to 8:30pm in the conference room at the Police Sports and Recreation Club, Boundary Street. JPOs who will be eligible for premature retirement have been invited by letters to attend. Police Night, the annual spectacular will be held at the Police Training School on the evenings from 25 to 28 November. One of the pre-eminent events of the year, Police Night 1998 will feature a performance by combined Police Bands with the Hong Kong Police Dance Team. Other highlights adding splashes of colour and excitement to the evening will be a tournament between major formations to manoeuvre a stalled police HGP vehicle through a series of gates. Police Night 1998 performances will build on last year's improved and varied format with a wide range of displays which include the mighty Saxon Armoured Personnel Carrier, the Road Safety Bus, Robotcop, and the vehicles and equipment used by the Bomb Squad, as well as craft employed by the Small Boat Unit. A wide range of souvenirs will also be on sale and a cash canteen service will be available from 5pm. CP Eddie Hui Ki-on will host a Commissioner's Night with the Chief Executive taking the salute on November 26 which will be attended by many "friends of the Force". November 25 and 27 nights are open to the public, while November 28 is reserved for Force members only. Senior officers are encouraged to attend the CP's cum SOs' Night on November 26 to allow more inspectorate and junior officers to attend the Force Night on November 28. Tickets for this year's Force Night on November 28 will cost $60, $80 and $100 with 1,000 seats available. The 160, $100 seats will be padded armchairs in the front row. There will be 100, $80 seats with straight back chairs behind the best seats while the 740, $60 chairs will be in a temporary grandstand at the rear and at the Peter Moore Building. Booking procedures for Force Night will be same as last year. There will be no pro-rata distribution to DSROs/SROs. Force members wishing to attend Force Night will have to fill out the order form below and post or fax it to PTS (fax 2814-1783) by October 30. Officers can apply for a maximum of six tickets of any price. Senior officers may approach CIP SUP PTS on 2814-4213 direct for the booking of tickets for the CIP's cum SOs' Night. PCROs are responsible for the sale of tickets for the two Public Nights. Demand for tickets to annual Police Nights in the past has always been high, so those planning to attend should purchase their tickets as soon as possible. Fireworks display will be held on Thursday 1 October over Victoria Harbour. The display will start at about 8:30pm and last for about 20 minutes. Applications are now invited for reservations for the fireworks display dinner. There are 50 tables (25 in the Chinese restaurant and 25 in the indoor games hall) available for a Chinese dinner ($2,997 for 12 people, $1997 for eight diners), along with seating for 100 in the Grill Room and Beat Caf? for Western cuisine ($240 per adult, $220 per child). For details call 2891-4128. NOTE: The POC will close for the fireworks display on 1 October at 4pm and will re-open at 5:30pm for those holding tickets for the special fireworks night function. Normal POC service will be resumed the following day ? 2 October.
Mooncakes are on sale at the POC for the following prices: Gold pack (four large cakes) $208; Mini pack (eight pieces) $128.
Will be held at POC on Saturday 31 October from 3pm to 5pm. Activities include spooky games, a tunnel of horrors, fancy dress, magic acts and a tea party. There will also be a prize for the best-dressed spook. Cost is $80 per child with a maximum of 60 tickets available.
It is very important that the children playroom is kept clean and hygienic at all times. Parents and guardians are kindly requested to take off their shoes as well as the shoes of the children before entering the room, and place them in the shoe-racks provided outside the room.
