Workshops aid TSW officers
A series of workshops for newly graduated Police Constables has started, aimed at providing a communications outlet to share their views on job-related and personal issues with senior officers. Tin Shui Wai Divisional Commander Alan Liu said the workshops provided a channel for junior officers to voice their views and raise any problems encountered during their first few months of work. Specially-designed questionnaires are distributed to officers with questions related to duties and the relationship among Force staff. "Since officers are not required to fill in their names, they are free to raise their concerns without hesitation," Mr Liu said. Ten of the 11 participants of the first exercise were fresh-graduates, the other one passing-out earlier this year. Mr Liu said the workshop was the first of its kind in the Force and believed it would enhance his understanding of what was happening within his Division. "We must find out what the problems are so we can formulate solutions accordingly," he said. And plenty of feedback was gained. PC Chan Chun-sing said he liked the practice of having an experienced PC accompanying new recruits. "It is an effective way of familiarising ourselves with daily police work. Although we all learned theories and regulations in Police Training School, we need some additional guidance while we are on the beat," PC Chan said. PC Tsoi Man-kit said the workshop provided JPOs with a channel for two-way communication. He hoped the practice could be introduced in other Districts and formations.
