Survivor says thanks for top
job in chaotic conditions
(This is the letter received by Airport District in the days following the rescue)
As a surviving passenger aboard China Airlines Flight CI642, I feel that it is imperative that I take a moment to commend you and all of the members of the Hong Kong Police, fire and rescue services, and medical personnel for the excellent job performed on August 22 in controlling the chaos during the disaster.
I understand and appreciate that you have all been trained extensively, drill after drill, but to be faced with an actual disaster is an entirely separate matter. The precision in which police officers were able to separate the genuinely injured from the merely dazed, process through to immigration, and calm the situation through to the Regal Airport Hotel was extremely impressive.
Please pass along to the men and women of Airport District my sincere appreciation for an extremely impressive job in controlling a dire situation in an immensely professional manner.
Sincere thanks and regards,
David McConnell
