CIS upgrade to improve
user-friendliness

The Communal Information System (CIS) is to be upgraded bringing quicker and more detailed data and reducing maintenance and development costs.

The Communal Information System Division will launch the CIS (Version 3.0.0) this month which merges the existing CIS with the Traffic and Operations Management System (TOMS) under one application.

The Contract Project Manager for the upgrade, Wilson Lee, said the move will allow several TOMS features to be introduced to CIS, such as new screens for entering driving and vehicle licence details.

Information will also be received from the Transport Department through the CIS.

The measures will save time inputting data and reduce the possibility of wrong entries.

The new version will also introduce a new standard format for dates following the International Standards Organisation (ISO) guidelines.

A more user-friendly menu will also give users a better understanding of the system and functions.

The system is quite quick to install and roll-out will be made as smooth as possible, with Information Technology Branch staff on standby to offer immediate support.

Mr Lee said: "This new CIS version is only a starting point for the further development of the system as other major enhancements are in the pipeline which include better and more comprehensive ways to compile Crime Messages."

The Division welcomed questions, comments and suggestions and can be contacted through its website:
