Cyber boost for query system Got something on your mind? Then get on-line and browse the Force's new staff suggestion webpage now running under Service Quality Wing, on the Police Intranet (POINT). Jointly set up by the Wing and the Information Technology Branch, the page not only allows you to download forms for lodging suggestions but also offers a database and search engine to enable visitors to examine opinions raised by others and to seek out those on particular subjects. You can also track your suggestions, monitor their progress and view the evaluation results. Staff Suggestions Committee Secretary Dickson Yun Chun-pong who helped design the page, said it had already, literally, proved a hit since its July launch receiving some 3,400 visitors' hits. He said it was an important evolution for the Staff Suggestions Scheme which has seen about 1,300 submissions since it started in 1994. "Going cyber and having a database allows staff to look at the views lodged previously by others and check up on the progress of submissions as it can take time to evaluate or test the various suggestions made. "But now officers just have to type in a serial number and they can find out the progress of their suggestion at any time of the day. The system saves a whole lot of time and paper," Mr Yun said. The Wing was now planning to have the database and search engine running bilingually by early next year. He said about 30 to 40 officers, mostly Junior Police Officers, tested the new features and offered their feedback. "JPOs lodge about 60 per cent of the suggestions we get, and many of them are now proficient with computers so we think with the new website they can submit more suggestions, including those on the information technology side and many other technical aspects - staff suggestions are no longer restricted to just policing these days," Mr Yun said. To surf to the site just select "Service Quality Wing" in POINT and then click "Police Staff Suggestions Scheme". Suggestions can also be lodged through the Internet by emailing sq-gr@police.gov.hk., or simply sq-gr if you are using PEN.
