New pier opens at Tai Lam |

The Marine Region held a ceremony on November 27 to mark the opening of the new Tai Lam Pier and inauguration of six new "ANDA" Class Police vessels. Speaking at the ceremony, Acting Marine Regional Commander Mr Peter Burbidge-King said the original pier had only one berth that could accommodate only a few vessels. Subsequent to the modernisation and expansion of the Police Fleet, it was decided to demolish the original pier and to construct a new and bigger one with berthing for five large vessels complete with fuelling facilities. "The new pier has greatly enhanced berthing and support facilities in Marine West Division," Mr Burbidge-King noted. Mr Burbidge-King said the new "ANDA" Class vessels, which had replaced the old Zodiac inflatable boats, would be deployed in Deep Bay North and the shallow waters of the Yuen Long Creek as well as the Mai Po Marshes where they would spearhead anti-illegal immigration and anti-smuggling operations in the area as well as carry out day-to-day watch and ward duties and keep a sharp lookout for crocodiles!
