New Territories North (NTN) Region is making efforts to prevent theft of heavy machinery, following recent thefts of dredgers' parts and computer panels of machinery from warehouses in the region.

On top of beefing up patrol and gathering of intelligence, NTN held a seminar in Yuen Long Town Hall for heavy machinery companies on prevention of theft of heavy machinery on November 20, with the aim of strengthening communication with people in the trade and exploring ways to raise their awareness of crime prevention.

NTN Regional Crime Prevention Officer, Mr Hau Kwong-chi chaired the seminar, while Pat Heung Divisional Commander, Mr Wai Hang-mo was the chief speaker. Apart from giving talks on improvement of burglary alarms and other crime prevention measures, the officers also held discussions with the traders and sought their views.

NTN is encouraging traders to form an association to enhance liaison and communication. At the same time, it has pledged to continue strengthening law enforcement actions, maintaining communication with the trade, stepping up publicity and collecting views from traders so as to prevent theft of heavy machinery more effectively.
