The Finance Committee of the Legislative Council, at a meeting held on July 7, approved the funding of $352.1 million to construct a new Junior Police Officers' (JPOs) Married quarters at a site adjacent to the Castle Peak Police Station at Wu Hong Street, Tuen Mun.

The funding approval followed a meeting of the Public Works Sub-committee meeting held on June 21, this year, which was attended by Director of Finance, Administration and Planning Ng Sek-hon, Assistant Commissioner (Personnel) Tang Kam-moon, and Planning and Development Branch Chief Superintendent Barbara Willison. Construction works are expected to commence in late 2007 for completion in early 2010.

It has always been the Force Management's policy, subject to availability of funds and resources, to provide sufficient departmental quarters for married serving officers. The new project will provide 336 new flats, comprising 84 of 'F' grade and 252 of 'G' grade, for JPOs to improve the overall situation of quarters and provide larger quarters, which are more popular with officers.

To be located in the northwest of the New Territories, the new quarters will improve the geographical distribution of JPOs' married quarters.

The project will comprise two 22-storey blocks with ancillary facilities such as management office, guard booth, multi-purpose room and vehicle parking spaces. The quarters are conveniently located, within walking distance (about five minutes) from various public transport facilities. The design will be environmentally friendly in keeping with the latest energy efficiency and conservation standards.

The successful funding approval reflects the Force's ongoing care and concern for staff welfare.
