Incremental approach to five-day week

In line with the Civil Service Bureau's implementation plan of a five-day week, the Senior Force Management has decided that the Force will adopt an incremental approach in migrating to a five-day week.

Only a small number of back-end offices in 'E' Department and some operational duties currently working five days/shifts or less in a week are included in Phase One which commenced on July 1.

Officers in the remaining units presently working standard office hours with alternate Saturday on, including those with a public interface or which are contingent on the operation of a partner organisation, will move to a five-day week in batches under Phase Two between January 1 and July 1, 2007, subject to the final endorsement of the Senior Force Management.

Phase Two will also cover other units that work variable hours, 11 days fortnightly or other duty patterns without shift or logistical implications and could migrate into five-day work week with two rest days. The two rest days may not necessarily fall on Saturday or Sunday, or on two consecutive days.

The feasibility of implementing a five-day week for frontline units will be carefully examined, and if practicable, implementation will begin in Phase Three. Directorate officers will only be considered under Phase Three.
