Over 150 officers from across the Force, as well as representatives from the Department of Justice and Securities and Futures Commission, attended a presentation on the Mainland's Company Law, given by a Mainland expert at the PHQ Auditorium on June 28. Making the presentation at the invitation of the Police College and Crime Wing was the Deputy Divisional Chief of the Commerce and Trade Division, Economic Crime Investigation Department, Ministry of Public Security, Mr Zhao Chao. In his opening address, Acting Assistant Commissioner (Crime) Ma Wai-luk emphasised that to combat cross-border commercial crimes, it is important for officers to acquire knowledge of the Mainland's legal and trade systems. Mr Zhao was, therefore, invited to speak on this subject to enhance officers' knowledge. A master degree holder in law and educated in the UK, Mr Zhao has served in both the Criminal Investigation Department and Economic Crime Investigation Department of the Mainland for many years. He is an expert in tackling cases of contract fraud and intellectual property infringement. During his presentation, Mr Zhao explained in detail the Mainland's Company Law and shared his experience in investigating cross-border frauds with the audience, whom were delighted to have the opportunity to have a direct conversation with a Mainland official. The question-and-answer session saw a spontaneous exchange of views between the speaker and the audience. The audience also considered the presentation very informative and useful, having enhanced their knowledge of not only the Mainland's law but also the policies currently adopted by Mainland authorities. The PowerPoint presentation material and voice recording of the presentation (in Putonghua and English) will be uploaded onto the Police College "Learning Portal" for those unable to attend the talk.
