The "Senior Police Call (SPC) Chinese Naming and Logo Design Competition" aims at publicising the specific elderly scheme and enhancing elders' sense of belonging and identity.

The competition drew an encouraging response from the public, receiving about 11,200 and 2,900 entries for Chinese naming and logo design respectively. The creative submissions came from various age groups ranging from six to 99 and from different social groups such as students, professionals, civil servants, housewives, and retired persons, showing that the community supported the competition.

Each contest will have a champion, first and second runners-up and 10 merit award winners.  A trophy will be awarded to the "Best Participating Police District".

The Judging Panel comprised Director of Management Services Tang How-kong, Prof Chan Cheung-ming, Chairman of Elderly Commission and Director of Lingnan University, Asia-Pacific Institute of Ageing Studies, Dr Lum Yat-sang, Director of Hong Kong University Sau Po Centre on Ageing, Dr Cheng kam-chung, Chairman of Road Safety Campaign Committee of Road Safety Council and Sham Shui Po District Fight Crime Committee Chairman, Mr Tan Tick-yee, Chief Social Work Officer (Elderly) of Social Welfare Department, and Ms Chan Man-yee, Chief Officer (Elderly Service) of Hong Kong Council of Social Service. On April 11, the panel selected three Chinese names and logo designs as well as entries for merit awards.

The prize presentation ceremony will take place at Police Sports and Recreation Club on June 14.  All the invited representatives from Police Districts and elderly participants will vote for the most appropriate Chinese name and logo design out of the final top three entries.  Those who have voted for the champion of the Chinese name and logo design for the SPC Scheme will have a chance to win a lucky draw prize.

The SPC Scheme will be officially launched at the end of this year. The scheme aims at providing an effective platform for communication between elders and the police.  It is hoped that elders' awareness of crime prevention would be enhanced through organisation of activities to promote "Productive Ageing", motivate them to serve their peers and the community, protect them from crimes and make them more aware of road safety.
