The Force, together with Fire Services Department, Hospital Authority and two civilians, has won "Leader of the Year Award 2012"of the Community/Public Affairs category. The award recognises the personnel who took part in the rescue operation of the Lamma vessel collision on October 1 last year, displaying bravery and care and risking their own lives to save others.
At a presentation ceremony organised by Sing Tao News Corporation on March 22, Superintendent (SP) Mui Lam-sang, Sergeant Lee Wai-him and Police Constable Yeung Ming-hong, who had taken part in the rescue operation, received the award from the Secretary for Security, Mr Lai Tung-kwok, on behalf of the Force before Commissioner Tsang Wai-hung and Acting Marine Regional Commander Richard Morgan.
Invited to share his experience of the rescue operation, SP Mui said there were over 1,000 Police officers performing different roles in the operation, working hand in hand with officers from other Government departments. He added that the Police were ready at all times to respond to major incidents and disasters, and maintained a high standard of professionalism in delivering quality services.
