To highlight the Force's efforts to reduce accidents at the workplace, the Occupational Safety and Health Division (OSHDIV) of Support Wing recently announced the 2012 OSH Situation Report.

Last year, the Force Top X focused on those tasks that cause the most serious and common injury to staff, in particular conducting motorcycle patrol, responding at speed to emergency calls, and handling violent and drunken persons. As a result, it is encouraging to note that last year there was a decrease in OSH cases involving injuries to officers in general, with motorcycle incidents at the lowest level since recording started.

Superintendent (OSH) Peter Donohue said: "These good results were brought by a long-term strategy implemented with the advent of the new Force OSH policy in 2010. Reductions have been recorded in the focus areas of the Force Top X and for that special mention should be made of the good work in safety of Transport Office, Field Division, Police Driving School, Weapons Training Division and OSH Cadre."

Senior Inspector (OSH) Terry Tam added: "Although units have introduced policies to promote safety in key areas, Regions have played their part too and the initiatives taken at the frontline to reduce OSH incidents are particularly impressive.  Hopefully 2013 will see further reductions in OSH incidents in Regions."
