The Police Debate and Speech Club (PDSC) held its 1st Annual General Meeting-cum-Anniversary Dinner in Police Headquarters on April 19 where about 60 club members and guests, including Police Arts Council Chairperson, Assistant Commissioner Winnie Chiu, and guests from the Toastmasters International, watched an impromptu speech competition by the members.
The six contestants, comprising two inspectorate officers and four police constables, each delivered a two-minute impromptu speech in English on stage. This was a highly challenging task but all the contestants showed a lot of confidence and zest, giving the adjudication panel a hard time in selecting the champion.
Eventually, Auxiliary Police Constable Aidan Pan of Wong Tai Sin District brought the house down with a speech with the topic of "I am the Champion" and was crowned champion, followed by Senior Inspector Wilson Ng of Support Wing as 1st runner-up and Police Constable Anthony Chu of Personnel Wing as 2nd runner-up.
In her closing remarks, PDSC Chairperson, Chief Superintendent Jocelyn Cheung, thanked all members for their valuable support and contributions since the club was formed in June last year. She stressed that the club would continue to pursue its mission of promoting public speaking and communication skills within the Force, and encouraged all members to enjoy the fun of public speaking.
The club is recruiting members and particularly welcomes Junior Police Officers and inspectorate officers. For registration or enquiries, contact the Vice Chairperson (Membership), Superintendent Margaret Chiu Wing-lan, via PEN to margaretwlchiu@police.gov.hk.
