Mong Kok District (MKDIST) is always committed to fostering a harmonious community and promoting understanding among different ethnicities with a variety of activities.   This year, MKDIST has teamed up with Mong Kok Kai Fong Association in holding a cooking competition known as "Mongkok Community Top Chef Competition 2013".

Sponsored by CLP Hong Kong and Amoy Food Ltd, the competition concluded on July 6, promoting food cultures and offering a platform for the contestants to share their cooking experiences. In addition to promoting healthy diets, the contest also aimed at encouraging ethnic groups to participate in community activities.
 

The judging panel of the competition comprised MKDIST Commander Duncan McCosh, Deputy Commander Tsang Yim-sheung, Chairman of Yau Tsim Mong District Council, Mr Chung Kong-mo, Executive Committee Chairman of Mong Kok Kai Fong Association, Mr Leung Wah-sing, and Mong Kok JPC Honorary President, Mr Cheung Ka-ho.

A total of 18 teams took part in the competition in Senior Group, Junior Police Call Group and Non-ethnic Chinese Group.  Contestants were required to prepare a dish within 20 minutes incorporating the theme of "Healthy Cooking, Green Living, and Multi-cultural Community".  The judging panel then scored the dishes according to their presentation, aroma and taste, cost control, health and green consciousness and the coordination among team members.

Following an intense contest, a champion, two runners-up, 15 Outstanding Award winners, and winners of Team Spirit Award, Healthy and Green Award and the Most Appealing Award were announced. The organisers also treated the audience to the delicacies.

A highlight of the event was a special challenge for the guests when a professional  Head Chef prepared a dish with his culinary skills. Immediately after this, a Mong Kok Police Team, Mong Kok Kai Fong Association Team, Mong Kok Junior Police Call President Team and Yau Tsim Mong District Councillors Team competed with each other, bringing the atmosphere to a climax and then the curtain down on the competition.
