Six students from the Chinese University of Hong Kong attended a six-week internship programme in Police College in the past two months. The following is their collective view on what they did and the training they received on the college campus.

"We, students from the Department of Sport Science and Physical Education of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, are pleased to have the opportunity to join a six-week internship at the Physical Training and First Aid Unit of the Foundation Training Centre at the Hong Kong Police College from June to July.

Our major responsibilities included assisting the Physical Training Instructors in carrying out physical training and making assessment, and providing administrative support. In addition, we participated in a five-day Outdoor Personal Development and Adventure Training programme, experiencing the challenges of the power pole and overnight expedition, and even conquering the Sharp Peak  in Sai Kung.

Throughout the training, we realised that becoming a professional inspector is a real tough job. It was an exciting experience for us to go to locations by helicopter and marine police launch. We also visited the Tactical Training Complex and took a close look at the Leadership Training for probationary inspectors, which broadened our horizons about Police training.

We also applied the knowledge we have acquired from our major subjects and designed a series of afternoon training programmes for both recruits and in-service trainees to promote a healthy lifestyle.

It was a great honour for us to work as interns in the Police College and we would like to express our gratitude to all the instructors and officers who were our mentors and companions. We appreciate that joining the Police Force requires dedication and determination and we hope we would be able to join the Force with a high level of physical fitness and perseverance."
