During the school summer vacation, many Police Districts organised various programmes to disseminate beat crime messages to youngsters. Police hope that they would make the optimum use of the vacation for self-enhancement, and steer clear of crimes and drugs.

NTS kicks off summer activities for teens

New Territories South (NTS) Region kicked off a "Summer for NTS Teens Campaign" with a bus parade on July 25 as the curtain raiser for a series of youth crime prevention activities in the summer holiday.

Officiating at the kick-off ceremony were Regional Commander NTS Lau Chi-wai, Deputy Regional Commander Lui Hon-kwok, District Commanders in NTS and local dignitaries. Following the ceremony was a bus parade, during which pop singer Hubert Wu helped with distribution of publicity leaflets as a Youth Crime Prevention Ambassador.

A crime prevention video has been uploaded onto the Hong Kong Police YouTube and will be screened in public places in NTS.

Crime prevention at Ani-Com & Games

The 15th Ani-Com & Games Hong Kong was held at Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre from July 26 to July 30, attracting thousands of fans, especially youngsters. Determined not to give thieves any chance, the Regional Crime Prevention Office of Hong Kong Island Region joined hands with the Civil Aid Service Cadet Corps in disseminating crime prevention messages at the venue on the first day of the event.

Supporting the themes of the Fight Crime Committee for 2013-2014, namely "Stand Firm! Knock Drugs Out",  "Guard Against Sexual Assault" and "Mind Your Belongings", officers and the Cadet Corps members handed out publicity leaflets and related items to visitors to the fair.

WDIST summer initiatives for youngsters

This summer, WDIST has launched a three-stage beat crime education project. The first stage of the project was rolled out prior to the start of the school summer holiday with School Liaison Officers from Police Community Relations Office (PCRO) offering talks in a total of 70 schools. The talks covered a wide-range of topics, including summer job pitfalls, cyber crimes and burglaries.

The second stage will begin during the summer holiday, during which officers will step up patrol at places frequented by young people, and staged publicity activities at young people's popular spots in conjunction with the Central and Western District Fight Crime Committee (DFCC), Southern DFCC, and other community organisations.

In the third stage, officers from PCRO and Anti-triad Section will visit schools in a bid to prevent students from being victimised by triads. Supported by school discipline teachers, the officers will also check out young people's hangouts for the same purpose.

On July 30, WDIST Commander Choy Wise joined Mr Yip Chun-nam, Chairman of the Central and Western DFCC, and DFCC members in visiting cyber cafes and video game centres and reminding young people not to experience drugs and brush with the law.
