The Overseas and Mainland Study Visit Programmes for District Investigation Team (DIT) for the 2013-14 financial year commenced with the visit to the Jakarta Centre for Law Enforcement Co-operation (JCLEC) in Indonesia between June 24 and 27.
This financial year, Crime Wing Headquarters will again organise a total of four overseas and Mainland visits for DIT officers to broaden their horizons in criminal investigation and boost their professionalism.
In the visit to JCLEC, Chief Inspector Yip Chi-kin from Crime Marine led a delegation of two Detective Inspectors (DIP), two Detective Sergeants and 10 Detective Police Constables (DPC) from various Districts. Upon arrival, they met with Brigadier General Soepartiwi, Director Executive of JCLEC, who gave an overview of the structure and functions of JCLEC with a tour around the institution.
The delegation members also met with police officers from Indonesia, Australia, United Kingdom and Canada attending courses at JCLEC and shared crime investigation experiences with them.
Superintendent Sri Susilowati of the Criminal Investigation Department also gave a presentation on the crime situation in Indonesia and the measures to combat human smuggling crimes. The delegation members later visited child and juvenile protection facilities, the Bomb Squad Unit and the Police Hospital on forensic examination, during which the members exchanged relevant experiences with their hosts.
The delegation members have spoken highly of the outcome of their overseas visit. DPC Tang Hin-ping commented: "The visit gave us a good opportunity to share investigation experiences with our Indonesian counterparts. It was also a great opportunity to study different investigation strategies."
DIP Wu Siu-siu added: "The visit allowed frontline DIT officers to gain more mutual understanding on the detective work with their overseas counterparts. This kind of networking would definitely strengthen the co-operation in handling transnational crimes amongst countries."
