Since their establishment in 1967, the two education trusts have provided subsidies to numerous police children in the forms of awards and grants to motivate them to study hard and contribute to society. In 2000, the trusts further set up scholarships for police children with outstanding academic results. So far, over 800 scholarships have been awarded.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, CP pointed out that with the guidance and assistance of the chairmen and members of the Joint Management Committee and the Investment Advisory Board, the trusts had been running smoothly over the years. He thanked the generous donors for the sustained development of the trusts for the benefit of more police children.
He also extended special thanks to Prof Sophia Chan who stepped down as a member of the Joint Management Committee last year after making a great contribution to the management of the trusts in the past five years.
CP also addressed the police parents present at the presentation ceremony: "It is no easy task to bring up such outstanding children despite your heavy workload. Seeing your children's achievements today is the greatest reward for you."
Congratulating the scholarship winners, Mr Tsang advised them to embark on the road of lifelong learning and to distinguish between right and wrong so that they would reach their full potential academically for the good of society.
In his speech, Mr Lee praised the Force for being one of the most efficient law enforcement agencies in the world. "Your parents are making a lot of effort to maintain a stable society and you can study and grow up in a safe and comfortable environment," he told the awardees.
In a video sharing session at the presentation ceremony, two former winners of the education trusts, Dr Mak Ying-fai, and the daughter of the late Station Sergeant Lau Chi-kin, spoke of their personal developments and thanked the financial support of the trusts. They also advised the awardees to get better equipped for making contributions to society.
