At a Police Mentorship Programme (PMP) Summer Day Camp held in Police College on August 17, over 180 mentees and mentors recognised better their own potential and forged friendship through a day of activities.

The annual camp was organised by Recruitment Division, comprising a wide range of tasks and activities, which aimed at developing the mentees' leadership potential, self-confidence and communication skills.  The programme of the camp included team-building exercises, introduction of the Probationary Inspector (PI) Selection Process, physical exercises and demonstrations by Physical Training Instructors of Police College.

The Head Mentor, Deputy Regional Commander New Territories North, Paul Lau, told the mentees: "Being a PMP mentee, you would understand the Police Force from many aspects. You should recognise that police officers working in different units can fulfil their aspiration to serve the community." He also encouraged the mentees to develop their potential through the PMP so that they would be able to take on challenges.

Four ex-mentees including Inspectors Ho Yun-yin and Yuen Ka-yi, who are also assistant mentors, together with Probationary Inspectors Luk Kwok-leung and Sung Ka-wai, also participated in an experience-sharing session on their exciting and interesting stories in Police College and the challenges they experienced in their frontline job.

With the coaching by the mentors and a variety of activities, the mentees understand better their own strength and weakness and are in a better position to plan for the future and set their own goals.

The mentees are expected to apply for the PI post on the next Recruitment Day cum PI Express scheduled for November 30. For serving junior police officers, a seminar for those with potential for PI will be conducted on the afternoon of Friday, October 18.
