The Knowledge Cafe is one of Police College’s platforms for frontline officers to share practical policing experiences in an informal manner. In a bid to promote sharing of experiences in criminal investigation, the college’s Specialised Services Training Centre (SSTC) rolled out a new sharing series known as Detective Casebook Series on July 24.
According to the head of the SSTC, Senior Superintendent Eric Cheng, the new series is different from the learning workshops organised by the Detective Training Centre, with emphasis on case studies and dialogue between the guest speakers and the participants. It is hoped that the series would bridge the gap between knowledge and experience by way of informal but interactive sharing.
In the series’ first session known as "Well-planned Robbery and Professional Detectives", Organised Crime and Triad Bureau Chief Superintendent (CSP) Kwok Ho-fai shared with over 80 officers the chronicle of the investigation of a serious armed robbery. CSP Kwok and the participants scanned the scene of the robbery for evidence, which, after an analysis, finally led them to find out the key to crack the case. The participants found this format of exchange useful, practical and interesting.
