Joint operation seized 95 kgs "Ice"
The Narcotic Bureau of the Hong Kong Police (NB), the New Zealand Police and the New Zealand Customs mounted a joint operation resulting in the seizure of 95 kilograms (kgs) of "Ice" in New Zealand over the last few days.
Investigation into this transnational drug syndicate commenced in the beginning of 2006 with its syndicate members being closely monitored by the enforcement officers from both places.
The operation turned overt and arrest action commenced this week. Enforcement officers in New Zealand searched two suspected containers in Auckland, resulting in the seizure of 95 kgs of "Ice" and 150 kgs of pseudo ephedrine, the main ingredient for manufacturing "Ice". The retail value of the seized drug was estimated to be worth about HK$650 million.
Six guns, an assault rifle and a significant amount of cash were also seized in another location during the operation.
Following the seizure, six men, including two Hong Kong residents, were arrested.
They were subsequently charged with drug and firearms related offences and had appeared in court in New Zealand today (May 25).
During the operation, NB provided continuous assistance and support to their counterparts in New Zealand. A number of locations in Hong Kong were raided by NB officers. No persons were arrested.
