Being a committee of the Yuen Long Junior Police Call (JPC) Council, I attended a meeting last month and discussed our year plans. I found Yuen Long JPC Council special, as it is formed by five units, namely the Training Unit, the Activity Unit, the Social Service Unit, the Promotion Unit and the Administration Unit. This structure totally differs from the councils in other districts.
I joined the Activity Unit since it is appealing to the kind of person that can bring up creative ideas like me. Our unit is going to hold a number of fun activities for our JPC members throughout the year, ranging from organic farming workshop to socks-flower making. I am responsible for holding an activity called “Dialogue in the Dark”. The original plan was to go to the museum of Dialogue in the Dark in Lai Chi Kok, but as we all wanted to make it more fun and original, we decided to organise it in the clubhouse on our own!
I was so delighted, tossing and turning over nights. I kept thinking about the details and the games to play during that day. Tons of innovative ideas emerged in my mind for participants to experience the life of the blind. Should I hold a sightless party? How about an audio-only movie time? I am really excited!
I wish more people can learn to give a helping hand to the disabled and show more empathy. Also, I do hope they can cherish their lives as healthy persons from the bottom of their hearts and make good use of them by striving for the best.
(Miss LIU Yao-xin, JPC member of Yuen Long District)
