I joined a 10-day exchange tour to Poland under the International Youth Exchange Program held by the Home Affairs Bureau and the Commission on Youth between July 17 and 23. It was an amazing tour which enabled us to discover the true colours of Europe and Poland.

Poland is a historic country which has experienced numerous wars since the 12th century. The Polish love their country and history. They have tried their best to preserve historic buildings, keeping Many old towns intact. Some local residents still live in the old district.

The Polish also integrate modernity into the historic buildings harmoniously. In Warsaw, the old town and the royal castle were surrounded by modern towers. At the opposite of the Palace of Culture and Science, the tallest historic building in town, there is a modern tower of similar height. The two buildings representing the past and the present in juxtaposition form a famous landmark.

Poland does not have a very high quality of life when compared with Hong Kong, but what we see is that their lives are relaxing and enjoyable. Their parks and playgrounds are large and people can play games at any time freely.

Hong Kongers are on the other side more stressful and are not as happy with their lives as the Polish. Even though Poland is only a developing country, I love this place a lot, and I hope Hong Kongers can learn from their way of living to enjoy a better life.
