Scientists have quested for exploring different animals and proven that some dogs, apes and dolphins can in fact understand human language.
The border collie, ranked number one in intelligence of dog breeds, has demonstrated in various studies the ability to recognise the names of hundreds of objects and fetch them correctly on command. Some are even able to comprehend verbs and objects used in different contexts, for example, putting their nose to a ball or touching a ball with their hands upon verbal instructions.
Another study on apes has revealed that they can understand more than 3 000 English words. They are able to respond aptly to more complex commands in phrases, such as 'Put the soap in the water.' Bottlenose dolphins, touted as one of the most intelligent animals, go even one step further to be able to show more cognitively advanced skills to understand instructions in full sentences, as long as the sentences contain tangible words instead of abstract ideas.
