Patient: Two friends of mine had a heated argument last Friday. I did not know what to do.
Doctor: Perhaps you can sit on the fence.
Patient: But we were in a classroom. There is not any fence.
Doctor: To sit on a fence is not to take sides in an argument. In this way, you may not upset either of your friends. You can then try your best to calm them down as well.
