The Hong Kong Police Force has devoted their effort to promote community participation. A project entitled "Proud of You", has been initiated by the Central Police District for NEC youths since October 2013. In the beginning of new year, the project had a brand new start as well. There are NEC members of 10 different ethnicities in JPC Central District. I am an NEC member aged 11 and 13. Under this project, a visit to the HK Legislative Counil (LegCo) was arranged for us to encourage us to learn more about the community.
During the visit, we learnt about the history and composition of the LegCo, and were allowed to enter the solemn Chamber for experiencing the discussion atmosphere amonget LegCo members. For better understanding of the procedures and works at the LegCo, a role-play activity to imitate various roles, such as the chairperson and LegCo members for passage of a mock bill and mock motion debate. This activity allowed us to gain deeper understanding of Hong Kong and recognise that the LegCo complex was not a place only for public meetings.
