Description
In the first half of 2019, the Hong Kong Police Force organised a series of activities to celebrate its 175th anniversary. The theme was “Serve and Protect Hong Kong 175 Years” to showcase the professional performance and commitment of the Force to the community, enhance public understanding of policing and strengthen the Force’s communication with the public.
The highlight of the celebrations was the “Hong Kong Police Force 175th Anniversary Open Day”, which was held at the Wong Chuk Hang campus of the Police College. Visitors to the event were treated to a spectacular performance by eight elite police units, including the Special Duties Unit, the Force Escort Group, the Police Dog Unit, and the Police Band. The visitors also watched a short film on the history of the Hong Kong Police Force through a 360-degree projection cinema system. In addition, they also had close contact with the Force’s equipment and participated in the game booths set up by around 50 of the Force’s arts and sports clubs. A number of social enterprises were also invited to set up sales booths. Admission to the Open Day was free of charge. A large number of people lined up early in the morning and all 12,000 tickets were distributed within half an hour.
In conjunction with the Force’s celebrations, Hongkong Post issued a set of special stamps themed “Our Police Force”. It was the second time that Hongkong Post issued stamps with a theme of the Force. The six stamps showcased the different aspects of the Force’s work including boundary security, criminal investigation and detection, cultural diversity and equal opportunity, police training, international collaboration and traffic management. The stamps came with an augmented reality effect that collectors could view in three dimensions via a mobile application.
Through the various activities, the Force hoped to increase public awareness, understanding and support for the work of the Force in different areas.
