In the small hours on January 24, during an extreme cold spell with blistering wind and icy road condition, the Force responded to calls for help from hikers and runners participating in a long distance race on Tai Mo Shan.

Tsuen Wan District, together with various units, including Traffic New Territories South, Police Tactical Unit Company A and D and Quick Reaction Force, joined an inter-departmental rescue operation for over 20 hours. In the operation, over 100 people were rescued, of whom more than 60 were sent to hospitals.

At the scene, the officers conducted traffic control and crowd management and assisted in the rescue operation. Besides assisting in searching for the trapped hikers, the officers also advised members of the public to leave the scene as soon as possible to ensure their safety under the inclement weather and to avoid hindering the rescue operation.

On January 28, Mr Chung Wai-ping and Mr Wong Wai-kit, Chairman and Vice-chairman of Tsuen Wan District Council respectively, together with Tsuen Wan District Councillors, called at Tsuen Wan Police Station to present pennants to show their appreciation of officers' performances in the rescue operation. During the visit, the officers took the opportunity to share their strategies for, and challenges encountered in, the rescue operation.
