The Airport Security Unit (ASU) of Airport District (APTDIST) clinched the "Corporate Excellence Award - Outstanding Customer Service Award" for the first time at the 2017 Customer Service Excellence Programme Award Presentation Ceremony held by the Airport Authority Hong Kong on June 15.
Last November, a Russian man pulled out a knife to threaten a female staff member at a currency exchange shop in the Hong Kong International Airport. Grabbing her neck, the man snatched over HK$58,000 from a cash drawer and fled. ASU cordoned off the area concerned for a search and thereafter identified the knife-wielding robber. The officers immediately arrested him with all stolen money recovered.
On the other hand, Project HALO, which has been put in place since 2016 to maintain air cargo security, was nominated for the first time and instantly earned commendations from the airport stakeholders. In addition, the Operations Wing, the District Intelligence and Support Section and District Investigation Teams of APTDIST were presented with a total of 66 certificates of appreciation in the category of the Corporate Excellence Award in recognition of their delicate services provided to the public, passengers and airport staff.
