World Police Games 1999 "Failing to plan is planning to fail"
|
WITH the
success of the Hong Kong Police Team at the recent World Police/Fire
Games in Calgary, now's the time to start getting in shape and preparing for the 1999
Games to be held in Stockholm, Sweden.
¡@The sporting events planned for these games include: archery, badminton, basketball,
boxing, bowling, cross country running, darts, golf, judo, mountain biking, swimming,
orienteering, pistol, powerlifting, pocket billiards, rugby, sailing, skeet shooting,
soccer, squash, table tennis, tennis, track and field, volleyball and, of course, TCA - the
Toughest Competitor Alive - to name just a few.
¡@As in previous years there will be competitions for all age groups ranging from young
and fit, to older and hopeful.
¡@The standard of competition in these games has improved dramatically over the years
and it is now policy that the Force contingent, either team or individual, be
medal contenders.
|
¡@Sports Club chairmen have been requested to consider their nominations now - and to
closely monitor the performance of both their teams and individuals in order that
entrants will be competitive in Stockholm.
¡@So if you feel like a contender for one or more events, you should be getting ready, as
well as informing the chairman of your club, NOW!
¡@If there is no club for your intended competition and you wish to compete as a member
of the Hong Kong Police, you must obtain the official sanction of the Police Sports
Council.
¡@Remember the old adage of from the Police Training School: "Failing to plan is planning
to fail", and get moving - forthwith.

Police Squash Club American Handicap Tournament
PRIOR to
the start of the new 97/98 Squash Season, the Hong Kong Police Squash Club
plans to hold an American handicap tournament on 13 September (Saturday) at PHQ from
1pm until its finished.
¡@All members of the Force (and their families) are invited to participate. That's ALL Force
members - not just Squash Club members.
¡@In an American handicap tournament, players are given a handicap, that is, the better the
player, the higher the handicap. To win a game you must score 15 points with one point
per rally. Therefore, a good player could be given a handicap of -12 points, while a
beginner may be allowed to start with 8 points. The experienced player in this case would
have to score 27 points to triumph, while the beginner need only score seven points to win.
