Orienteering

THE Annual General Meeting of the Police Orienteering Club will be held on Friday 15 May from 6pm to 7pm in the conference room of the Police Sports and Recreation Club.

Although the Police Orienteering Club plans to organise at least one internal Force event each year, it now intends to concentrate on competition in open events organised by the OAHK, which are normally on Sunday mornings (and which also include courses suitable for beginners).

The Club already has a number of members who compete at the highest levels within Hong Kong and who have been selected to represent Hong Kong at international level.

Orienteering will be included in the World Police and Fire Games to be held in Stockholm in July 1999, and the AGM will also discuss the criteria for the nomination of prospective competitors for the Police Sports Council's consideration.

Any disciplined or civilian members of the Force who are interested in orienteering, whether for recreation or competition, are welcome to attend the meeting.

For more details contact Richard Morgan, P Wing, 2860-3667, or Chan Hung-him, PTS, 2814-4361.

SPORTING NOTES
THE annual Law Enforcement Torch Run for the Special Olympics, organised by the Hong Kong Sports Association for the Mentally Handicapped, is scheduled to be held at 11am on Sunday 3 May 1998 at the HK Cultural Centre Piazza, Tsimshatsui.
The Force had set very good records in previous years and a total of $ 436.759 was raised in 1997, the highest amount of donations among the six participating disciplined departments.
In order to maintain our good record and to give our support to this worthwhile event, this year, your strong support is once again requested. All donations will be used to fund the 1998-99 Hong Kong Special Olympics Games and the year round sporting activities for mentally handicapped persons. Apart from raising funds and calling for the awareness of the Special Olympics, the event publicises also the good image of the Law Enforcement Departments.
