Night moves

ON the evening of Sunday July 5/6, Police Duties from Kowloon, Kowloon East, Kowloon West, New Territories South and the Force Escort Group all played a role in the monumental and logistically enourmous task that saw some 12,000 airport vehicles, 70 barges of airport equipment and 30 aircraft moved from the closed down Kai Tak Airport to the newly opened facility at Chek Lap Kok.

A welcome sight. The illuminated Tsing Ma
Bridge marked the last section of the move
for all involved

from Kowloon Bay to Chek Lap Kok for a
convoy of heavy airport vehicles

Heavy metal. Police keep the way clear for gigantic pieces of equipment (as well as for the long lines
of airport vehicles), being transported along the designated routes to Chek Lap Kok during the night move

A seemingly endless stream of
airline vehicles finally arrive at
their new home; while others
are still in transit. (photo above
period) During the move timing
was critical as each individual
piece of equipment and vehicle
had an allocated time slot to load,
depart and arrive at CLK.

As the early morning dawns, airline equipment
and vehicles slowly begin to accumulate around
the new control tower at Chek Lap Kok
International Airport

through the night and early morning (often during heavy
rains) take a break and pose for our photographers on
Chek Lap Kok's tarmac
