Medical and Dental Treatment
for Government Servants

All monthly paid Government servants and their eligible family members may obtain free medical and dental treatment at Government clinics and dispensaries. However, a charge is made for dentures and dental appliances in accordance with CSR 950.

'Family', as defined in CSR 900, includes: (i) the officer's spouse; and (ii) sons and daughters who are (a) unmarried; and (b) under 21.

In the case of sons and daughters aged 19 and 20, they must also be in full time education or in full time vocational training, or dependent on the officer as a result of physical or mental infirmity. The eligibility of step children and children of divorced or legally separated officers will be determined by the Secretary for Civil Service.

Daily-rated staff and their families will receive such medical treatment as is available to the general public. Daily-rated staff who are injured in the course of their duty are however eligible for free treatment at Government clinics.

Eligible persons seeking medical treatment should produce a duly completed GF181 as proof of eligibility. Officers are strongly advised to seek treatment at the most convenient Government clinic. To obtain dental treatment, the officer or his dependent should first make an appointment at a dental clinic by telephone or in person.

As some clinics are booked up for several months ahead, they are advised to make appointments at the less-heavily booked clinics. The clinic will make arrangements for further appointments, if necessary.

In the event of an emergency or serious illness, medical attention can be sought at any time at an Accident and Emergency Department. However, they are very busy and should only be used in an emergency.
