Summer is not only for fun, but also for sharing and learning.Western District JPC Council-Social Service Team organised the first summer tutorial class for 18 non-ethnic Chinese (NEC) primary school students in August.
Before the six tutorial classes, we did some research on culture as well as prepared lesson plans and interactive games. Our aims were to provide a safe and supportive platform for NEC students to improve their Chinese language proficiency and understand more about JPC during the summer holiday. We were glad to see students’ language improvement and their interests in JPC clubhouse and activities throughout the course.
Our tutorials included passage reading, lyrics writing and games. Students actively participated in Chinese group discussion and enjoyed team-building games with our JPC members. They showed eagerness to learn, an attitude that we should pick up from them. Their happy faces and laughter gave us loads of motivation to teach and share. Though the summer class had come to an end, we looked forward to joining hands with more NEC students in coming JPC anti-crime activities.
I am glad that the NEC students and the JPC members had a happy and meaningful summer in the clubhouse. As JPC members, we can take the lead to initiate meaningful and creative community-building activities to promote anti-crime messages to our peers and society. It is time to turn your idea into action!
Special thanks go to the support from Chiu Sheung School, JPC staff and voluntary tutors for their hard work which makes this service possible.
