Teddy bears are one of the world’s most beloved cuddly toys which were named after former United States President Theodore ‘Teddy’ Roosevelt, who refused to shoot a bear during a hunting trip. This incident then inspired the creation of the first teddy bear. Kids are particularly attached to this adorable object of affection which can take the place of the mother-child bond. However, many grown-ups still treat these fluffy toys like friends, talk to them and cuddle them to sleep. Some of them even bring them along as travel mates on their business trips.
The love of teddy bears among many adults can be explained by many psychological reasons. Everyone loves a hug as it can be very therapeutic. Hugging a teddy bear can bring about the same effect, offering a sense of security, comfort and bliss. It reminds us of our cheerful childhood and therefore conjures up a sense of wellness. Studies have shown that touching your fluffy friend can reduce the adverse psychological consequence of social exclusion and therefore lessen the resulting stress. They are even given to victims involved in traumatic shock or survivors of disasters as comfort objects. It is proven that teddy bears have a calming effect during times of crisis.
