Just before the Easter holiday, my mum brought me to the Kowloon City JPC clubhouse to join the pastel Nagomi art workshop. I wondered if any new elements in the workshop that would thrill me as I was familiar with pastel painting since kindergarten.

We started with something simple! The tutor asked me and my friend to draw a little hill first. We used a strainer to scrap some of the pastels to our own little square to form a little hill and used different colour pastel to draw some trees, houses and footpath to enrich the picture. Last, we painted the sky with the color we liked. Some of us used blue, some used pink while some used purple.

To my surprise, when the tutor started to demonstrate the painting technique, I found out that the most important tool is our fingers! Our tutor moistened her finger with wet tissue and gently pushed the pastel flacks to disperse on different parts of the paper smoothly like magic!

I also tried other tools such as baking paper with holes of different sizes. Our tutor taught us to use an art eraser to create some white spots on our drawings to resemble the snowing effect like Christmas.

I liked this experience and hope the pandemic would cease soon so that we can meet our friends and family members soon without wearing masks!
