Local Police establishing
themselves as keen lawn bowlers

THE final of the Wallis Trophy was played on the afternoon of Tuesday March 23 with the three-player team from Traffic Kowloon East defeating team Crime Prevention Burean Team "A" in a closely fought game that ended in a score of 18 to 15 on the POC lawn bowling green.

The final was the culmination of a competition that initially involved 11 teams.

Regional Commander Kowloon East John Yuen met both teams after the final and presented the handsome trophy to the winners (personal souvenirs for all finalists will be presented at the Club's Annual General Meeting on April 23 at the Police Officers' Club).

The competition, played since 1986, has the primary goal of introducing new players to the game and thereby boosting the playing strength of the Police Lawn Bowls Club (both ladies' and men's sections).

This year's competition was successful on this front and a number of the "new" bowlers will play for Police this year.

Lawn Bowls Club chairman Ian Marriott stressed the importance of this annual competition pointing out that many of the recent successes enjoyed by Police bowlers in Hong Kong bowling circles can be linked directly to the fact that a large number of established Police players emerged via the Wallis Trophy.
