THE fourth NTS Officers' Mess New Year Fun Run (to help all interested Mess members get rid of their Lunar Festival flab) took place on March 12. The three-mile run was won again this year by Inspector S C Barker (Traffic NTS) in a blazing 18:57 ¡Ð cutting more than half-a-minute off his winning time of 19:36 last year.

PC Cheung Chi-wai (Police Tactical Unit 'F' came second in 19:10; followed by Chief Inspector I F McNicol (Emergency Unit NTS) in 19:37, and Detective Police Constable Ngo Chi-lun (Regional Crime Unit NTS) in a respectable time of 22:41.

Prizes were presented afterwards in the Mess by Deputy Regional Commander NTS Chief Superintendent Mak Man-poon.

Police Orienteering Club Championships

THE Police Orienteering Club Championships were held in damp and misty conditions at Yuen Tun, near Sham Tseng on Saturday March 13. More than 80 competitors took part in the event which included a cross-country competition for the Paddy Birney Memorial Trophy, as well as two classes of score events.

ITB Systems Analyst Steve Holmes and acting Sergeant Lam Hon-keung of Police Tactical Unit Headquarters were runaway winners of the Paddy Birney Trophy, finishing the tough course covering some difficult terrain in just under 78 minutes.

Winners of the score event were Sergeant Hui Ngai-sang and Police Constable Chan Chi-ho of Emergency Unit Kowloon East, with the team of Police Constable Ma Wing-kwong and Ip Lap-chi of PTU HQ taking the first prize in the novice event.

Island Run results

THE annual Island Run 1999, took place on 20 February and saw a pretty good field of competitors race from Wanchai Gap to Police Training School.

Winners in the following categories were: Central District in Team (Major Unit) event; Emergency Unit Hong Kong Island in Team (Minor Unit) event; Open won by PC Keung Wing-key of Wan Chai District; Senior Police Constable Ko Fuk-ming of CDIST took the Senior category; PTU 'E' Sergeant Chan Chi-keung took the Veteran I race, with Sergeant Station Lo Wai-keung of Eastern District winning the Veteran II; and Personal Secretary II Chan Sui-yi of CDIST winning the Ladies event.


CAPO Fun Run 1999

THE annual CAPO Fun Run will be held at 9:30am on Friday 30 April at the Shing Mun Reservoir. The course is approximately 8 kilometres and all members of the Force are welcome to participate.

To cover the costs of the event, all non-Compaints and Internal Investigations Branch entrants are required to pay an entry fee of $15. Those interested may register and make their payment to Training and Staff Relations Officers or equivalent on or before April 12.

The Police Athletics Club is a full, voting member Club of the Hong Kong Amateur Athletics Association. As such, our members can use any Urban Council sports stadium facilities throughout Hong Kong. The Police Athletics Club will pay entrance fees for club members to join in any Hong Kong athletics running event such as the reservoir cross-country series organised by the Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation.

We will even send a team (all club members welcome) to the annual Macau Marathon.

And we regularly pay for club members to compete in Hong Kong-wide athletics meetings organised by the HKAAA.
