After decades of futuristic visions and imaginations, our flying car dream is gradually becoming closer to reality. Various companies have recently been making headlines unveiling various prototypes of flying cars, claiming that they will be ready to take to the skies by 2018.
The flying car resembles a high-tech four-seat sedan equipped with fold-out wings that have twin electric motors on each side. These motors allow the vehicle to take off and land vertically, so there is no need to have a runway. After the initial ascent, thrust will be generated and the flying car can cruise at a speed of 200 to 500 miles per hour. As the whole operation is semi-autonomous, there is no need to have intensive flight training. The driver only needs to input the destination and initiate the autopilot mode. Then an optimal flight path will be planned, avoiding bad weather and crowded airspace.
The flying car truly offers door-to-door comfort as you can drive it off from your own garage to anywhere you want to go. However, even if you are not acrophobia, will you feel comfortable cruising up in the air on your own?
