December 23 Christmas Adam

The first human from Bible, Adam, is created by God before Eve, the second human. Therefore, the day before Christmas Eve is named Christmas Adam to represent the sequence of human creation. It is a new term invented to set the mood for Christmas.

December 24 Christmas Eve

“Eve” means the period before an important event. It is believed that Jesus was born at December 25 midnight. Thus, the day before this holy occasion is named Christmas Eve and that evening is referred as Holy Night or Silent Night. It is also said that Santa Claus will bring gifts to well behaved children on the night of Christmas Eve.

December 25 Christmas

The word “Christmas” is the short form of “Christ’s mass”, where people gather at churches to hold midnight mass to commemorate the birthday of Jesus.

December 26 Boxing Day

The name originates from a tradition that the rich box up gifts to the poor and the servants to show love and care. Church will also give donation, stored in a collection box, to the poor after Christmas. So “Boxing” is the word to describe the way people collecting gift or donation. In Ireland and some areas in Spain, it is celebrated as Saint Stephens’s Day and regarded as a second Christmas day.
