Introduction
With the economic growth in Hong Kong, the number of vehicles started to increase in the 1950s, causing frequent vehicle-pedestrian conflicts. In this regard, the Government at that time formally utilised traffic pagodas to solve traffic problems. The traffic pagodas were initially set up on main roads, on which a traffic warden controlled the traffic, and drivers had to comply with the warden’s directions. As traffic lights have been widely used since the late 1970s, all traffic pagodas have been replaced upon completion of their historical mission. At present, only two traffic pagodas are kept in places near Wong Ho Square of the College and outside the Police Museum respectively for exhibition purposes.
