Introduction

Peter Moor Building in the College is the base of the Police Band. Formed in 1951, the Police Band was initially a Silver Band comprising of only 21 members who served as amateur musicians in addition to performing police duties. At the end of that year, the Band developed into a full-time police band to cope with the increasing demand for musical performances. It consists of a Pipe Band and a Silver Band. The Band plays an important role in maintaining the Force’s public relations by participating in over 500 musical engagements every year. Some of them are charity shows, such as the Police Concert for Community 2016 that raised over $3.8 million for the Community Chest of Hong Kong. The Band also plays for various official events like the Reunification Day, National Day and Honours and Awards Presentation Ceremony, etc.

In recent years, the Band has participated actively in community activities in response to social support and launched a number of programmes to arouse the youth’s interests in music. For example, it launched the “Music Touch” programme to deepen the youth’s knowledge of march music and strengthen mutual trust and understanding between the Force and the youth. In 2018, it also launched the “Music Vision” programme in which the Pipe Band members teach students to play bagpipes in order to further strengthen ties with the youth.
