Introduction

Previously a swimming pool, Shun Tai Yuen is a small garden in the College with an area of over 2,000 square feet. Its construction was planned as part of the Police Training School (PTS) Extension Project in the 1970s. After knowing the plan, Sergeant Yeung Shun who was responsible for ground affairs and Police Constable Mak Tai-cheung of Stores Management Office took the initiative to assist in the construction work during off-duty hours. To commemorate their dedicated efforts, the College management specially named the garden as “Shun Tai Yuen” by picking a character from each of their names, meaning “with propitious wind and rain, the society will enjoy prosperity and the people will live in peace.” Besides, an inscription of Shun Tai Yuen written by Lecturer Hon Yim-luen of the University of Hong Kong was also erected in the garden to commemorate Mr Yeung and Mr Mak.
