The Force constantly reviewed and improved its work procedures, upgraded equipment and enhanced professional training with a view to delivering quality service to the public, the Chairman of the Pubic Service Commission, Mr Nicholas Ng, said when he inspected a passing-out parade at Police College on November 23.

Like the Public Service Commission, Mr Ng said the Force adhered to the principles of fairness and meritocracy in the appointment and promotion of the disciplined staff. Besides, a comprehensive human resource management framework was also put in place to allow staff to develop their potential to tie in with the development of the Force.

He noted that the Force, being highly professional, efficient and well trained, was committed to containing the crime rate at a low level and ensuring that Hong Kong continued to remain as one of the safest cities in the world. The superb performance, which was attributable to the unfailing efforts and devotion of Force members, won the recognition and support of the public, he added.

He said that the increasing complexity in the social environment and the rising public demands and expectations had brought more challenges and pressure to frontline officers. He encouraged the graduates to put the professional knowledge and skills they had learned from training to good use.

“In enforcing the law, observe the principles of fairness, impartiality and objectivity. In face of difficulties, show your perseverance and courage. When there are temptation, stand firm for your values and uphold your professional ethics,” he told the officers on parade.

In conclusion, he hoped the graduates would regard the  career as a lifelong one for pursuing their goals and aspirations, and contributing to the stability of Hong Kong.

A total of 40 probationary inspectors and 206 recruit constables passed out.
