With an aim to celebrating the 20th anniversary of the launch of the Operation Breakthrough - a Police-led charitable organisation - and to recognising its achievements in assisting youths-in-need, Chief Secretary for Administration (CS) Mrs Carrie Lam invited representatives of the organisation to her residence for a reception on November 11.

Mrs Lam said, "The Operation Breakthrough provides valuable opportunities for the teenagers to receive sports training, thereby helping them to build their confidence and develop their team spirit. That's why I fully support the charitable project to help young people to take a new course of life through sports."

Also attending the reception were Secretary for Security Mr Lai Tung-kwok, Commissioner Lo Wai-chung, Deputy Commissioner (Management) Chau Kwok-leung, Director of Personnel and Training Chiu Wai-yin, Director of Management Services Li Kin-fai and Director of Finance, Administration and Planning Tam Wai-yee.

The youngsters of the Operation Breakthrough demonstrated to CS and the guests a series of sports activities, including cricket, football, boxing and rugby. On behalf of the Operation Breakthrough, Mrs Lam presented awards to many youngsters who have changed their lives through the project. A project representative was honoured to present Mrs Lam with a commemorative cap.

Mr Lo thanked CS for the arrangements for celebrating the achievements of the Operation Breakthrough. He also took the occasion to pay tribute to over 100 volunteers, many of whom were police officers, who spent their spare time to assist the youngsters to gain a new perspective of life.

The Operation Breakthrough uses sports as a means to coach young people from disadvantaged backgrounds or families to fight crime in low-income and new immigrant communities. Anyone who is interested in joining this charitable organisation as a volunteer is welcome to contact Superintendent Foo Yat-ting on 3661-2368.
